Some of the enhancements of the latest version of Flash have been revealed. While Flash 9 seemed primarily geared to words coders, with the introduction of Actionscript 3.0, Flash 10 seems to be geared more to designers. Some of the new features include a Bones tool, a 3D Transform tool, and a Decor & Spray Brush tool. The Bones tool looks particularly nice.
Just came across a cool promotion of Wario Land: Skake It! on the Nintendo Wii. It’s nice blend using the popularity of Youtube and some nice Flash effects. Check it out here:
Is there something bothering you about one of Adobe’s products? Adobe make amazing products, but even the greatest need a bit of constructive criticism. Chances are, judging by the top 100 on the site Dear Adobe, the main gripe with their products seems to be Acrobat/PDF related. For me, PDF’s tend to freeze my PC until it’s loaded, which is quite annoying if you’re used to multi-tasking while things are loading.
How’s this for a nice trip down gaming memory lane. Mame, the emulator, has been ported to Flash. Unfortunately there’s no sound at the moment, but there’s a good selection of the old classics. Check out FMAME here
I just came across a flash game dev competition, being held by e4. The prize is a cool £5000, which initially excited me. I skimmed the terms and conditions and from what I gather all entries are essentially a non-exclusive license to your game, since you have to insert their logo with a link to their site. You’re also not allowed to place a link back to your site. I suppose from their point of view it’s just easier to moderate the games this way, and they are offering a decent reward…
